Buy-Once Checklist
Durable-goods questions that save money long-term.
Price Sanity Check
Is it actually a deal? Worth-per-use maths.
Impulse Brakes
12 pre-checkout sanity checks.
The 30-day list: want it? Add it with today's date. Buy only if the want survives 30 days.
Cost in hours: divide the price by your hourly rate. 'That's 9 hours of my life' hits differently.
The cart test: leave it in the cart overnight. Most urges die quietly by morning.
One-in-one-out for clothes, gadgets and gear. New item in, old item out, no exceptions.
Would I buy this again at full price if I already owned it? If no, skip the purchase.
Per-use maths: ₹12,000 jacket worn 200 times is ₹60/wear. ₹1,200 jacket worn twice is ₹600/wear.
The friend test: 'Would you tell me to buy this?' Send a photo. Let someone else be your prefrontal cortex.
Payment friction: delete saved cards from shopping apps. Re-entering card details is a speed bump that works.
The 24-hour rule for anything over ₹5,000. No exceptions. Especially not 'the sale ends tonight'.
Ask: am I buying this for the life I have, or the life I imagine having on Sunday evenings?
Unsubscribe from marketing emails. If the deal is real, you'll hear about it anyway.
Sleep on every 'limited time' offer. Manufactured urgency is a sales tactic, not information.
